Abstract
In the creation of classical Chinese poems including Ci poems, there occur inevitable flaws, which have already happened in the greatest poets’ works due to the word number restraints of the metrical patterns. The flaws have found expression in such two types as far-fetched lengthening and shortening of poetic lines. Accordingly, in translating such Chinese poems into English, influenced by the word number restraints of the metrical patterns of classical English poems, the same flaws have also happened. In line with the gains and losses in the translation practice over the past hundred years, it is suggested that blank verse in translation should be advocated. .
