Abstract

Objective To explore the status of overweight /obesity and dyslipidemia in 457 students in Guangzhou. Methods A total of 457 students were recruited randomly from elementary school, junior high school, senior high school in Guangzhou.Various physical and biochemical parameters were measured. These included the height, body weight and fat content.Vein blood was collected for the measurement of TC,HDL-C,LDL-C and TG.Dyslipidemia was determined according to recommendation of dyslipidemia criterion of adolescents defined by NCEP.Overweight /obesity was defined according to the criterion recommended by the Working Group on Obesity Problem in China. Results Results showed that 31.1 were dyslipidemia,36.3 were overweight /obesity and 15.8 were obesity. There was a significant difference in dyslipidemia between the normal and the overweight /obesity subjects(P0.05).Both TC and fat contents in the male subjects are significantly different from the female subjects(P0.05).With the exception of LDL-C,BMI was correlated with TG,TC,and HDL-C(P0.05).Conclusion The situation of overweight /obesity in students has reached an alarming level.
