Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between bone density and mRNA expression of TNF-α in the alveolars with experimental diabetic rats. Methods The SD rats were randomly divided into two groups:normal rats (Group N) and diabetic rats (Group D). After 8 weeks' study, TNF-α mRNA expression in the alveolr were measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR), respectively. In addition, radiograph, bone density and pathology were examined. Results In diabetic rats, the alveolar bone density decreased, and mRNA expression of TNF-α increased. Conclusion It was suggested that the alveolar bone in rats with diabetes mellitus had a tendency to develop osteoporosis. It might be related to increased TNF-α mRNA expression.
