Clinical observation of modified Danzhi Xiaoyao powder in treating post-stroke depression

Abstract

[Objective]To observe the curative effect of modified Danzhi Xiaoyao powder in treating patients with post-stroke depression. [Methods] The patients with post-stroke depression were randomly divided into three groups: modified Danzhi Xiaoyao powder group, fluoxetine and the combined group. All patients were treated with routine medicine also. The neurological and cognitive function determined with HAMD scale, MMSE scale , SSS scale and Barthel index (BI) before the treatment and at 4 and 12 weeks after treatment was evaluated. [Results] The AMD score and SSS score was significantly decreased (P0.01) while MMSE score and BI score was significantly increased (P0.05) after treatment of three groups. The decrease of HAMD score and increase of BI score in the combined group was more significant than those in the other two groups respectively ( P0.05). [Conclusion] Modified Danzhi Xiaoyao powder is effective in treating patients with post-stroke depression and shows synergism with fluoxetine.
