Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of cast gold alloy post and glass fiber-reinforced post applied in the restoration of anterior residual crown and root.Methods 120 residual crowns and roots of anterior teeth from 72 patients,aged from 18 to 52 years,were included in the study.Among the 120 teeth,60 teeth in the A group were restored with cast gold alloy post,while the other 60 teeth in the B group were restored with glass fiber-reinforced post.At the same time,each group was divided into a dentin ferrule group and a non-dentin ferrule group.All the teeth were then restored with porcelain fused metal crown.The esthetical property and the survival rate of the prostheses were observed.The data were analyzed with statistical test.Results The prostheses were followed up in this clinical study for a period of 24 months.The cast gold alloy post group and the glass fiber-reinforced post group of the survival rate were not significantly different.But,among the dentin ferrule group and the non-dentin ferrule group,the survival rates between the cast gold alloy post group and the glass fiber-reinforced post group were statistically significant.Conclusion The selection of the post core material is closely associated with the sucess rate of tooth restoration.
