Clinical evaluation of glass fiber post and metal cast post core in the re-restoration for residual root of anterior tooth

Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical effect of glass fiber post and metal cast post core in the re-restoration for residual root of anterior tooth.Methods Sixty anterior residual roots which have failed in post-core crown restoration but could be restored were included in this clinical observation.Tirty two residual roots were with glass fiber post cores,and the other 28 roots were with Ni-Cr alloy cast post cores.All teeth were restored with porcelain fused to metal crowns.The cases were rechecked one year,two years and three years later to observe the restorations.Results At 3 years follow up,the success rate of the glass fiber post group was 96.9%,with only 1 full crown falling off.The success rate of the metal cast post core group was 67.9%,with 6 post crowns falling off and 3 roots fracture.The success rates between the two groups were statistically significant.Conclusion Glass fiber post is more suitable as rerestoration material for residual root of anterior tooth.
