Maxillectomy and ethmoidectomy in the treatment of early carcinomas of the nasal cavity and the ethmoid sinus

Abstract

Objective To explore the treatment methods and long-term effect for early carcinomas of the nasal cavity and the ethmoid sinus.Methods 25 cases of I or II stage carcinoma received medical maxillectomy and ethmoidectomy from 1995 to 2001.Results Followed up for 3 to 5 years,the 3-year survival rate was 70.8%(17/24),5-year survival rate was 50.0%(8/16).2 cases failed to be followed up.6 cases had local relapse,but no severe complications occurred.Conclusions Maxillectomy and ethmoidectomy are effective for I or II stage carcinoma of the nasal cavity and the ethmoid sinus.
