Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of candesartan on intima-media thickness and IMT/R in the essential hypertension patients. Methods Sixty-three patients with mild to moderate hypertension were given the antihypertensive therapy based on candesartan and added low dose hydrochlorothiazide according to their blood pressure response.Carotid intima-media thickness and the inner diameter of the lumens were compared before and after 6 months' antihypertensive therapy. Results After treatment, systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate decreased respectively(P0.01).The average intima-media thickness and the average IMT/R decreased, and the average inner diameter of the lumens increased after treatment. Conclusion The antihypertensive therapy based on candesartan and added low dose hydrochlorothiazide has noticeable clinical efficacy and can improve arteriosclerosis.
