Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of domestic telmisartan on carotid intima-media thickness in patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension.Method Total 110 patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension were given the antihypertensive therapy based on telmisartan, and added a small dose of hydrochlorothiazide according to blood pressure response.Carotid intima-media thickness were compared before and after 6 months′ antihypertensive therapy. Results After treatment of 2,4,8 weeks, systolic and diastolic blood pressure of 110 hypertension patients obviously decreased(P0.01).Meanwhile,after six months of telmisartan treatment, the arotid intima-media thickness of hypertension with carotid intima-media thickening decreased [(1.07±0.24) mm vs(0.96±0.17) mm,P0.01];While that of normal carotid intima-media also changed thin trend, but there was no statistical significance(P0.05).Conclusion The antihypertensive therapy based on telmisartan not only has significant antihypertensive effects, but also can fight atherosclerosis.
