Abstract
Objective To learn the basic situation of HIV voluntary counseling and testing(VCT) in Jiading District,so as to provide scientific basis for HIV prevention and control.Methods The data including demographic and HIV laboratory testing information among individuals who received HIV VCT services at the VCT clinic in Jiading District from January 1,2008 to December 31,2010 were analyzed.Results Of the 1 032 people seeking VCT services during the three-year period,2.12% were positive for HIV.Most of the individuals were aged 20 to 30 years.the ratio of males to females taking HIV test was 5.69:1.the main reason for seeking VCT was extramarital heterosexual intercourse.The positive rate in those having venous drug using history was highest,while mnost of the HIV psotivies were men who had homosexual contact history,accounted for 52.38% of the total.Conclusion The HIV positive rate in the VCT outpatients was relatively high and VCT is an effective way in discovering HIV positives and adopting interventional measures.
