Abstract
Objective To understand the state of human immunodeficiency virus( HIV) voluntary counseling and testing( VCT) in Hubei Province from 2011 to 2013,so as to provide evidence for the establishment of preventative measures. Methods Data were collected from 333 outpatients seeking VCT consultations including demographic information, reasons for seeking VCT,and results of HIV antibody screening. Results 176 163 participants received VCT services from 2011 to 2013 in Hubei Province. 173 832 participants accepted HIV antibody screening, the screening rate was 98. 68%,among which 0. 77% were HIV positive. 90. 12%participants actively sought the VCT service. The difference in proportions of those seeking VCT service during the past three years was statistically significant( χ2= 342. 774,P 0. 05.) Males who have sex with males got the highest HIV screening positive rate in the past three years at 10. 26%. Conclusion It is necessary to promote outreach services in the entertainment locations and providerinitiated HIV testing and counseling( PITC) in medical institutions,so as to improve early detection of HIV / AIDS.
