Abstract
Objective:To explore the relationship between p21 protein and VEGF protein expressions and clinicopathogical characteristics of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Methods:Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression levels of p21 and VEGF in 56 case with cervical squamous cell carcinoma,24 cases with cervical carcinoma in situ and 16 cases with normal cervical epithelium(NCE) adjacent to carcinoma.The relationship between their expression levels and clinical stages,pathological types and lymph node metastasis or not was analyzed.Results:The positive expression rates of P21 in cervical squamous cell carcinoma,cervical carcinoma in situ and NCE adjacent to carcinoma were 51.79%,83.33% and 93.75%,respectively;the positive expression rates of VEGF in cervical squamous cell carcinoma,cervical carcinoma in situ and NCE adjacent to carcinoma were 82.14%,58.33% and 31.25%,respectively.There were statistically significant differences in positive expression rates of P21 and VEGF between NCE adjacent to carcinoma and cervical squamous cell carcinoma,cervical carcinoma in situ(P 0.01).The positive expression rates of P21 and VEGF were significantly correlated with clinical stages,histological types and lymph node metastasis(P 0.01).There was a negative correlation between p21 expression and VEGF expression in cervical squamous cell carcinoma(P 0.01).Conclusion:Down- regulation of p21 protein and up- regulation of VEGF in cervical squamous cell carcinoma may be involved in the invasion and metastasis of cervical squamous cell carcinoma,joint monitoring of p21 and VEGF can guide diagnosis,clinical staging and prognosis of cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
