Abstract
Objective To investigate the characteristics of ultrasonographic findings in acute appendicitis and explore the diagnostic value thereof.Methods 275 patients, 207 males and 68 females, aged 27.7 (8~62), with acute appendicitis proved by operation and pathology underwent ultrasonography. The ultrasonographic findings were compared with the histological diagnoses.Results The diagnostic accordance rates between the ultrasonographic findings and pathological examination were 70% for acute simple appendicitis (20/29), 90.7% for acute purulent appendicitis (156/172), 91.2% for acute gangrenous appendicitis (52/57), and 100% for periappendicular abscess (17/17) respectively. Conclusion Ultrasound has a high clinical value in diagnosis of acute appendicitis.
