Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of oridonin on the proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis of human breast cancer MCF-7 cells. Methods After treated with various concentrations of oridonin, the proliferation of MCF-7 cells was measured by MTT assay, and cell cycle and apoptosis were detected by flow cytometry.Ressults The proliferation of MCF-7 cells was significantly inhibited by oridonin treatment at the concentrations of 20-50 μM. The growth inhibition rates were 67.37% and 97.63% with 50 μM oridonin treatment for 24 and 36 h,respectively. The apoptotic rate of MCF-7 cells reached 80.03% at 24 h after treatment of 50 μM oridonin. Conclusion Oridonin is able to significantly inhibit the growth of MCF-7 cells, induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, indicating that oridonin may be a potential drug against breast cancer.
