Abstract
Objective To study the effect of lycopene (LP) on blood lipid level in hyperlipidemia patients. Methods Totally 34 selected hyperlipidemia patients(triglyeride1.88 mmol/L) were randomly divided into 2 groups equally according to the levels of serum lipid. The study group took capsules with 18 mg LP every day for 4 weeks, and the control group took placebo during the same period. The serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyeride (TG), and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C) levels were measured both before and after the treatment. Results There were no significant differences in TC, TG, and HDL-C levels before therapy between study and control group.TC and TG levels of study group were significantly lower than that of control group after therapy(P0.05). And the levels of TC and TG were significantly reduced after LP treatment in study group (P0.05). Conclusion LP could reduce blood lipid level in hyperlipidemia patients.
