Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of total flavonoids of epimedium(TFE) on total cholesterol(TC),triglyeride(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) in blood plasm of hyperlipidemia rats. Methods 40 male SD rats were randomly devided into the high-fat diet group(31) and the full diet group(9).High fat diet group were fed with high-fat diet(HF) for 12 weeks, then the blood lipid were detected, which indicated that 26 of them had established the model of hyperlipidemia rat. Then the 26 male SD rats were randomly devided into three groups:the hyperlipidemia group(8),hyperlipidemia group with a large dose of TFE(9,lavaged with TFE 200 mg,1 d-1,for 4 weeks),and hyperlipidemia group with a small dose of TFE(9,lavaged with TFE 100 mg,1 d-1,for 4 weeks). At the 16th week, respectively, serum lipid level was measured in the rats. Results Compared with the full diet group, the levels of TG,TC,LDL-C in high-fat diet group were significantly increased(all P0.01) before intervention, while the level of HDL-C has no statistical significance(P0.05).The levels of TG and TC in hyperlipidemia group were higher than the full diet group(both P0.01) after intervention.Compared with the hyperlipidemia group, both of the levels of TC and TG in hyperlipidemia group with large dose of TFE and small dose of TFE were obviously lower(P0.05 or 0.01),while the levels of LDL-C and HDL-C has no statistical significance(P0.05).Conclusion TFE can reduce the levels of TC and TG in hyperlipidemia rats.
