Abstract
Objective:To study the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in breast cancer.Methods: Expression of COX-2 and P-gp was detected in 32 cases of breast cancer tissue by immunohistochemistry. Results: The positive COX-2 expression was 71.9% in breast cancer, and the positive P-gp was 46.9%. The expression of COX-2 in P-gp positive breast cancers was significantly higher than that in P-gp negative breast cancers. Conclusion: The expression of COX-2 was significantly correlated with P-glycoprotein. COX-2 might play a crucial role in mediation of multidrug-resistance (MDR) in breast cancer.
