Abstract

[Objective]To discuss the changes and significance of plasma homocysteine(HCY)in hypertension complicated with diabetic mellitus.[Methods]The plasma levels of HCY in 56 cases with hypertension complicated with diabetic mellitus,42 cases with hypertension and 40 cases healthy controls were detected by enzymatic cycling method. The correlation between HCY,and ISI and IMT were analyzed.[Results]The levels of HCY and IMT in hypertension group were significantly higher than those in control group(P﹤0.05),but ISI between the two groups with no significance(P﹥0.05).The levels of HCY and IMT in hypertension complicated with diabetic mellitus group were significantly higher than those in control group and hypertension group(P﹤0.05),and ISI were significantly lower than those in control group and hypertension group(P﹤0.05).The level of ISI in high plasma HCY group was significantly lower than that in control group without high plasma HCY(P﹤0.05),and IMT was significantly higher than that in control group without high plasma HCY(P﹤0.05).[Conclusion]Plasma HCY is significantly increased in hypertension complicated with diabetic mellitus patients, and significantly correlated with insulin resistance and carotid atherosclerosis.
