Effects of Ge Pi Decoction on blood glucose and lipids of rats with type 2 diabetic mellitus

Objective:To investigate the effect of Ge Pi Decoctiont on blood glucose,blood lipids and insulin in experimental dia-betic rats.Methods:Type 2 diabetic rat models induced by STZ were randomly divided into diabetes model group(n=11),Metformin group(n=9),Ge Pi decoctiont group(n=11),and control group(n = 10).General situation was observed during and after 8 weeks' treat-ment,and blood glucose,total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),blood insulin were detected.Meanwhile,insulin sensitivity index(ISI) was calculated.Results:Ge Pi decoction improved the general conditions of diabetic rats.Compared with the model group,blood glu-cose,TC,TG,fasting insulin of the treatment groups were decreased significantly(P0.05),and ISI was obviously increased.The changes in blood glucose and ISI level of Metformin group were greater than that of the Ge Pi decoction group(P0.05).There was no significant difference between the two treatment groups in insulin and lipids drop(P0.05).Conclusions:Ge Pi decoction could lower the blood glucose and lipids,and improve insulin sensitivity in diabetic rats.Its efficacy is similar to Metformin.
