Abstract
The present paper focuses on business English correspondence in real world by comparing the e-mails selected from a foreign trade company with the sample letters in textbooks. The comparison shows that there are substantial textual differences in field,tenor and mode between business English e-mails used in workplace and traditional business English letters in textbooks. Based on the differences,some relevant problems are exposed and some suggestions are put forward in teaching English for business correspondence.
