Abstract
The resistance performance of bulbous bow is studied for a 49.5m tuna longline fishing boat. A embolon type bulbous bow is firstly designed and simulated by CFD for the resistance performance. The numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results. Then, a water-drop type bulbous bow and S-V type bulbous bows are designed with variation of the extending length, the centroid depth and the volume of the bulbous bows. The resistance of the bulbous bows with three different types are numerically simulated and compared, respectively. The results show that the resistance of the longline fishing vessels will be reduced with embolon type bulbous bow.
