Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical value of Tei index in assessment of left ventricular global function in patients with essential hypertension. Methods 108 patients with essential hypertension were enrolled.According to Ganau categories, the patients were divided into four groups:normal left ventricle(group A,35 cases),concentric remodeling(group B,30 cases),concentric hypertrophy(group C,23 cases) and eccentric hypertrophy(group D,20 cases),and healthy subjects as the control group(group E,35 cases). The conventional echo Doppler parameters assessed included:The end-diastolic diameters of inter-ventricular septum thickness(IVS),left ventricular posterior wall thickness(LVPW),left ventricle(LVDd),E/A ratio(E/A),S/D ratio(S/D),ejection fraction(EF) and Tei index. Results IVS was increased in group A,B,C and compared with group E(P0.01).LVDd in group D was larger than those of group A,B,C and E,P0.01.E/A in group A,B,C and group D were all decreased compared with group E(P0.01).The EF was significantly reduced in group D than that of group E(P0.01).Tei index in group D was prolonged than that of group E(P0.05).Conclusion Tei index was simple and valuable for estimating left ventricular global functions with high sensitivity in hypertension patients.
