Abstract

Objective: To investigate the value of a new index-Tei index for estimating left ventricular function. Methods: Sixty-three patients with essential hypertension and dilated cardiomyopathy divided into three groups: concentric remodeling (groupA, 28 cases), eccentric remodeling (group B, 19 cases), dilated cardiomyopathy (group C,16 cases), and 30 normal subjects as the control group. The conventional echo-Doppler parameters assessed included: The diastolic diameters of left ventricle (LVDd), E/A ratio, ejection fraction (EF) and Tei index. E/A,EF and Tei indexes in each group were compared. Results: E/A ratio in group A.B.C was decreased than that in the control group (P0.05~0.01), Ejection fraction (EF) in group B.C was decreased than that in the control group (P0.01), Tei index in group A.B.C was significantly increased than that in the control group (P0.01). Conclusions: Tei index was valuable and easy for estimating left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions with high sensitivity and provide reliable diagnostic evidence for clinical study.
