Abstract
In Tertiary school,English classroom-teaching can't attach importance only to English Pronunciation, but more importance should be attached to intonation mastery and its functions with the knowledge of pronunciation as base. From the viewpoint of students language performance, intonation teaching is more important because under the same condition, the same language form in different tones can convey different meaning,or opposite meaning. Here taking the communicative function of English intonation as startpoint, and applying some pragmatic principles, the paper attempts to design and analyze the intonation-based English class teaching mode, and discusses the feasibility and efficiency of the mode in order to reconsider intonation teaching.
