The Characteristics of Clothes Culture During the Han Dynasty

The Chinese clothes culture has a long history. The clothes in ancient times can best reflect the cultural characteristics of feudal societies. As time went by, the hierarchical system of clothes was strengthened one dynasty after another and the social function of clothes replaced the primitive practical function. In the Han Dynasty, the clothes hierarchical system had come into shapes. The clothes, diadems, jade and seals the Han officials wore were all regarded as the symbol of their status and identities. A diachronic approach is adopted in this paper to investigate into the differences in clothes in different dynasties to show the gradual strengthening of the hierarchical systems and explain their concrete forms and characteristics.
