Abstract

The nature of metaphor is not only a matter of language,but also a matter of mind.Metaphor,as a kind of common language phenomenon,reflects different cultural models used in different languages,which is called cognitive models.The application of metaphorical concept shows that the metaphor cognition is universal across cultures,but at the same time,it has some differences in their application because of their different social and culture backgrounds.This paper deals with the nature of metaphor from the perspective of cognition study through examples and discusses the similarities and differences in English and Chinese.
