Abstract
Metaphor is not only a linguistic phenomenon, a means of people's thinking and behavior, but also an inseparable part of language and culture. Based on the introduction of metaphor, this paper analyses the cross-cultural similarities in metaphor between English and Chinese cultures because of the common cognitive ground and the differences because of different religious beliefs, aesthetic senses, value concepts and customs. The study of metaphor benefits cross-cultural activities and communication.
