Background:It was demonstrated that activation of coagulation contributed to the progression of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).P-selectin(CD26P) is thought to mediate the adhesion of neutrophils and monocytes with activated platelets or endothelial cells in hemostasis and inflammatory response.Aims:To explore the value of P-selectin,a marker of platelet activation,as well as platelet count(PLT) and mean platelet volume(MPV) in assessment of disease activity in ulcerative colitis(UC).Methods:A total of 96 UC patients,including 65 active UC and 31 inactive UC were enrolled; 60 healthy subjects served as controls.Peripheral P-selectin positivity rate was determined by flow cytometry,and PLT and MPV were measured by whole blood analyzer.Correlations of P-selectin,PLT and MPV with UC disease activity were analyzed.Results:Peripheral CD62P positivity rate and PLT were significantly higher and MPV was significantly lower in UC patients than in healthy controls(P 0.01).Changes of CD62P,PLT and MPV were more significant in active UC than in inactive UC(P 0.05).Positive correlations were observed between peripheral CD62P,PLT and UC disease activity(P 0.05 ),while negative correlation was observed between MPV and UC disease activity(P 0.05 ). Conclusions;A hypercoagulable state is present in UC patients.P-selectin,PLT and MPV are correlated with disease activity of UC,and might be used as references for assessment of disease activity and decision of therapeutic regimen inUC.
