Abstract

AIM: To study the expression and clinical significance of PTI-1 in prostate cancer tissues. METHODS: PTI-1 was examined in 21 cases of prostate cancer tissues, 12 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and 9 cases of normal prostate tissues by reverse transcription-polymerase chain raction (RT-PCR). RESULTS: Specific bands of PTI-1 were found in RT-PCR products of 15 cases of prostate cancer tissues, but not in BPH and normal prostate tissues. CONCLUSION: Detection of PTI-1 by RT-PCR can be used in diagnosing prostate cancer.
