Abstract
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of ureteroscope with Holmium:YAG laser on the treatment of ureteral calculi. Methods Retrospective analysis was carried out on 75 cases of ureteral calculi, who were treated via ureteroscope with Holmium:YAG laser from April,2007 to April,2008 in Hanzhong Central hospital.Among them,68 cases were complicated with mild to moderate hydronephrosis,to cases had no effect with Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy.During the operation 12 cases were found with the formation of polyps or encapsulation of calculi by inflammatory tissue, and 4 cases were complicated with ureteral stricture. Results The successful stone fragmentation rate of ureteral calculi after single session was 95.28%(71/75),and Upper ureteral calculi moved into the kidney in 2 cases.Ureteral perforations were found in 2 cases who complicated with ureteral stricture and conversions to open surgery were required. Conclusion Ureteroscopic holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy is a safe, highly effective and micro-invasive treatment for ureteral calculi. With shorter hospitalization and the simple operation technique,it would probably be the first choice to treat ureteral calculi.
