Abstract
Objective: To investigate the hypoglycemic effect of combination of Puerarin and Metformin(P-M, 2:1) on di abetic mice. Methods: Diabetes model was established by a single intraperitoneal injection of alloxan(ALX) at a dose of 200 mg/kg.Then diabetic mice were divided into 5 groups at random, namely P-M high, medium and low dose groups(400, 200 and 100mg/kg, respectively), model group and normal group. All mice were orally administered for seven and fourteen days, respec-tively. After weighed, the blood of all groups was collected to determine the level of glucose. In addition, the glucose toler-ance was determined. Results: Administration of P-M combination improved polydipsia and polyphagia in diabetic mice. Mice in medium and low dose groups weighed more than the model group(P0.05). At the same time, P-M significantly reduced the blood glucose of ALX-induced mice and improved the impaired glucose tolerance at day 14 in medium and low dose groups(P0.01). Conclusion: P-M combination can provide good hypoglycemic effect on mice with diabetes.
