Abstract
Objective To study the improvement effect of Puerarin on blood glucose and glucose tolerance in diabetic mice. Methods The experimental mice were divided into two parts, the normal group and the model group. In normal group, mice were divided into the control subgroup and the high dose subgroup treated with Puetarin of 1.35 g/kg BW by gastric intubation, and in model group, mice were treated with STZ firstly, then, they were divided into model control subgroup and treatment subgroups with lower, moderate and high dose of Puerarin (0.23 g/kg BW,0.45 g/kg BW,1.35 g/kg BW,respectively). Whole mice were observed and treated with Puerarin for 30 days. At the end of the experiment, all mice were examined on their FBG and glucose tolerance was tested in model group. Results The puerarin had no effect on the weight and FBG among the normal mice, but in model group, compared with the model control, the decreasing percentage in 3 dose subgroups were higher than the model control subgroup and the difference was significant (P 0.05). In the experiment of glucose tolerance, the high dose subgroup's area that was under the blood glucose curve according to time was smaller than that of the model control subgroup and the difference was significant (P0.05). Conclusion The results suggest that the puerarin has the effect of reducing blood glucose level in model mice.
