Preliminary studies on ornamental plant germplasm resources of Melastomataceae in Hunan Province

The ornamental plant germplasm resources of Melastomataceae are currently very prevalent in international market.In China,the ornamental plants of Melastomataceae are abundant in resources and types,but almost none of them have been exploited.The application of ornamental plants of Melastomataceae in Hunan Province was evaluated in this paper,based on their germplasm resources preliminary investigation and their aesthetic factors including plant-type,flower color,flowering period,leaf and fruit shape and so on.The results showed that,most of Melastomataceae in Hunan Province could be exploited as ornamental plants.They should be protected effectively and be utilized reasonably.
