Expression of CD40 and CD40L on peripheral blood mononuclear cells in patients with acute coronary syndromes

Objective To investigate the relationship of CD40 and CD40L on peripheral blood mononuclear cells with acute coronary syndromes(ACS).Methods The expression of CD40 and CD40L on peripheral blood mononuclear cells was detected by indirect immunofluorescence flow cytometry and the circulating levels of C-reactive protein(CRP) were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) in 23 patients with acute coronary syndromes,16 patients with stable angina,and 15 controls.Results CD40 levels were significantly higher in patients with acute coronary syndromes than those in patients with stable angina and controls(P0.05).There were no significant differences in CD40L levels among three groups(P0.05).CRP levels were significantly higher in patients with acute coronary syndromes than those in patients with stable angina and controls(P0.05).CD40 levels were correlated with serum CRP levels(r=0.406,P0.05).Conclusion The expression of CD40 on peripheral blood mononuclear cells is significantly elevated in acute coronary syndromes.CD40 may be a new candidate marker for activity of coronary disease.
