Abstract
MPLS technology is the best alternative method that can realize the idea of IP over ATM in recent years. This paper describes the backgrounds of MPLS, the rationale of MPLS, the framework of MPLS and its key technology. MPLS takes advantages of both IP and ATM, enabling the sound, video and multimedia information to be transferred correctly. MPLS uses the label to ensure the data transferred credible. The label is some fixed length digit that has no framework. In the end, this paper expounds a method aimed at utilizing MPLS in electric power communication networks based on the demands of key operations of electric power systems.
