Clinical observation on type 2 diabetes mellitus accompanied with depression treated by paroxetine

Abstract

Objective:To explore the quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus accompanied with depression treated by paroxitine.Method:Forty-five type 2 diabetes mellitus patients accompanied with depression were treated by paroxetine for 12 weeks.Hamilton depression scale(HAMD),Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA)and the medical outcomes study 36 item short form health survey(SF-36)were used before and after treatments.50 controls were evaluated with SF-36.Results:Paroxetine significantly improved the symptoms of depression and anxiety in type 2 diabetes mellitus with depression.Quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus accompanied with depression was significantly lower than that in controls before treatment.Conclusion:Paroxetine can significantly improve the quality of life and prognosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus accompanied with depression.
