Abstract

[Objective]To investigate the effect of depression on quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.[Methods]236 recent inpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were collected.Zung self-rating depression scale(SDS) and the 36-item short-form health survey(SF-36) were applied in evaluation.[Results]Among 236 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus,82 cases exhibited depressive symptoms(SDS,the depression score ≥50),and 154 cases did not have depressive symptoms.The scores of 8 aspects in the depression group,including physical functioning(PF),role physical(RP),bodily pain(BP),general health(GH),vitality(VT),social functioning(SF),role emotional(RE) and mental health(MH),were significantly lower than those in the control group(all P0.01).[Conclusion]The quality of life in patients with diabetes mellitus complicated by depression is significantly lower than that in patients with diabetes mellitus.While controlling the diabetes mellitus,it is important to adjust the psychological status and change the depressed mood of patients,to improve their quality of life.
