Abstract

In order to break the pupae diapause of Papilio xuthus, the effects of three factors of photoperiod, development temperature and how long of the time in low temperature in artificial climate chest on the development of the butterfly were studied. The results were as follow: the R2 value of the three factors of diapause pupae were 154.7, 936.2 and 21.3 respectively. The development temperature in climate-chest was the first influence factor which affected the development of diapause pupae under natural development to the last ten days of December. Photoperiod was the second factors, and how long of the time in low temperature of diapause pupae was the third factor which affected the development of the diapause pupae distinctly. The three factors had different effects on the development of diapause pupae in different developmental stages.
