Apoptosis of Jurkat cell induced by curcumin and its mechanism

Objective To investigate the effects of curcumin on inhibiting Jurkat cell(human T lymphocyte leukemia cell line),different phases of the cell proliferation and the changes of the subcells structures.Methods the growth inhibitory rates,cell cycle progression and Apoptosis rates of Jurkat cells induced by curcumin were measured by MTT assay,flow cytometry and electron microscope.Results Curcumin selectively inhibited the proliferation of Jurkat cell line in a dose-dependence.By flow cytometry analyse,cells increased in G1 phase,cells decreased in S phase,and cells increased correspondingly in G2/M phase.Cavitation and chromatin agglutination can be observed.Conclusion curcumin can suppress Jurkat cells proliferation,hold back cell course from G1 to S,and accelerate Jurkat cell apoptosis.
