Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of risperidone oral solution vs.haloperidol in the treatment of childhood Tic disorder.METHODS:102 cases of childhood Tic disorder were treated with either risperidone oral solution(n=51)or haloperidol(n=51).The two groups were followed for 8 weeks with efficacy evaluated using Yale Global Tie Severityb Scale(YGTSS)and side effects evaluated using TESS.RESULTS:The effective rate and improvement rate in patients receiving risperidone oral solution were 58.82% and 76.47%,respectively,as compared with 56.86% and 72.55% in patients receiving haloperidol(similar to each other in total effective rate). The side-effects such as salivation, tremor and EKG abnormality were more frequent in those receiving haloperidol.CONCLUSION:Risperidone oral solution is as effective as haloperidol for childhood Tic disorder, but the patients receiving Risperdal oral solution are more compliant.
