Abstract

Objective:To further testify the efficacy and side effects of risperidone in the treatment of Tourette syndrome. Method:Sixty patients with Tourette syndrome were randomly divided into risperidone group and haloperidol group to treat for six weeks. All the patients were evaluated with the Yale global tic severity scale(YGTSS) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS). Results:After treatment, the total scores and the dimensional scores of YGTSS decreased significantly in both groups, but these scores were significantly higher in risperidone group than in haloperidol group. The effective rate in risperidone group(67.9%) was significantly lower than that in haloperidol group(96.7%).The side effects in resperidone group were significantly less than those in haloperidol group. Conclusion:Although both drugs are effective to Tourette syndrome, the effectiveness of risperidone is poorer than that of haloperidol and the side effects of risperidone is slighter than that of haloperidol.
