Clinical observation for treatment effects of topical 5% imiquimod (Aldara) to external genital condyloma acuminatum

Objective To observe treatment effects and security of topical 5% Imiquimod cream to external genital warts.Methods Forty-five patients of external condyloma acuminatum were treated with topical 5% imiquimod cream for 8 weeks.The treatment effects and side effects were observed respectively at the end of 2、4、6 and 8 weeks.Results Forty-two patients finished whole treatment.The healing rate was 42.9%,and effective rate was 97.6%.There was no remarkable difference between the healing rates of male and female patients.The side effects rate was 73.3%.The most often side effects were local mild erythema and erosion.Conclusion With mild side effects,5% imiquimod cream is effective to external condyloma acuminatum.There is no effect difference between male and female patients.
