Investigation on Recognition of Malocclusion and Reasons about Patients without Treatment

Objective To get messages of the recognition about malocclusion of undergraduate students with malocclusion,analyze the reasons why they can not receive orthodontics treatment,and provide theoretical basis for the publicity of orthodontic knowledge.Methods The students in the university were examined by the dentist and we randomly drew 590 students with malocclusion who were nottreated and then carry out questionnaires of investigation.There were 360 boys and 230 girls,age 17~24,average 21.03 years old.Results Girls had more knowledge and recognition about malocclusion than the boys and there were significant deviations between them.The deviation among students who had different types of malocclusion and came from different regions was significant.There were different subjective and objective reasons why the students can not receive orthodontics treatment.The main subjective reason was that many patients have little knowledge of orthodontics.Economic and time factors were main objective reasons.Conclusion Now the undergraduate students with malocclusion were short of knowledge of malocclusion and we should strengthen the propaganda and education of oral general knowledge.With the development of economy and the decrease of the orthodontic material cost,more and more patients will be treated.
