Abstract

The bark and heartwood percentages and the density of Paramichelia baillonii were examined. The green volume was tested by drainage method, and bark percentage included bark volume percentage and bark quality percentage. The research showed that the green density decreased firstly, and increased from pith to sapwood. The green density decreased with the increase of height, and green density average was 0.864 g·cm-3.The basic density increased from pith to sapwood, and decreased with the increase of height, and basic density average was 0.462 g·cm-3.The moisture content of green wood decreased from pith to sapwood, and decreased firstly and increased later with the increase of height, and the average moisture content of green wood was 89.0%.The bark volume percentage and bark quality percentage increased with the increase of height, and bark volume percentage and bark quality were 16.2% and 20.4% respectively. The heartwood percentage decreased with the increase of height, and the average heartwood percentage was 16.3%.
