Abstract
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects of the mask BiPAP ventilation on COPD complicated with type II respiratory failure. Methods Forty patients with COPD complicated by type II respiratory failure were randomly divided into two groups: BiPAP ventilation group (trial group,n=20)and routine therapy group (control group,n=20).The patients' condition, blood gas analysis and vital signs were recorded. Results In trial group when ventilated for 4h,PaCO_2 and pH increased,however,PaCO_2,heart rate and respiratory rate decreased, as compared with those in control group (P0.05).When ventilated for 24 h,the patient's condition was improved more obviously (P0.05).In the control group, there were 12 cases (60.0%) who needed endotracheal intubation, while in trial group there were 3 cases (15.0%),there was a significant difference between two groups (P0.05),one case (5.0%) died in trial group and three cases (15.0%) died in control group, there was a significant difference between the two groups (P0.05).Conclusion BiPAP ventilation can be used as the first choice for the treatment of COPD complicated with type II respiratory failure.
