Abstract
Objective To investigate the protective role of propofol in ischemia-reperfusion injury through studying effects of propofol on nitric oxide(NO),superoxide dismutase(SOD) and myeloperoxidase(MPO) levels in the gut and blood during gut ischemia-reperfusion in rats.Methods Ninty-six male Wistar rats,weighting 230-250g,were randomly devided three groups: group Ⅰ control(C)(n=32);group Ⅱ ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)(n=32) and group Ⅲ ischemia-reperfusion+ propofol(P)(n=32).The rats were anesthetized with 3% pentobarbital 30mg/kg and and subjected to superior mesenteric artery occlusion(SMAO) for 45 min.In group Ⅲ,after SMAO,administration subcutanous propofol infusion was immediately started at rate of 20mg/(kg·h).After reperfusion for 30 min,60 min,120 min,240 min,rats were killed.NO and MPO in gut and blood and red cell SOD content were measure.Results NO in gut and serum concentration measure at all 4 time points were significantly lowered in group Ⅲ than that of in group Ⅱ(P0.01 orP0.05).The gut MPO levels in group Ⅲ were decreased significantly(P0.01 orP0.05).Red cell SOD levels in group Ⅲ and group Ⅱ were significantly lower than those of in group I,but red cell SOD levels in group Ⅲ significantly higher than these in group Ⅱ(P0.05).Conclusion Propofol could protect against ischemia-reperfusion injury through effecting on NO,MPO and SOD.
