Abstract
With the appearance and development of pragmatics,the study of context becomes a hot issue.This article discusses both the role of context in semantic understanding and the limitation of context.The purpose of the discussion is help us realize that we should not only know the important role of context in semantic understanding but also its limitation so that we would not exaggerate the role of context in deriving meaning.
