Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety of risperidone, clozapine and chlopiomazine combined with lithium in acute mania respectively. Method:All patients with acute mania according to CCMD- 3 were randomly assigned to receive risperidone, clozapine or chlopiomazine respectively and all of them combined with lithium. The study lasted for 8 weeks. The efficacy and safety were evaluated with mania rating scale (MRS) and treatment emergant symptom scale (TESS) respectively. Results:The efficacy of resperidone group was similar to the other groups and had less side effects.Resperidone group took effect more slowly than clozapine group, but was similar to chlopromazine group. Conclusion:The efficacy and safety of risperidone combined with lithium are higher in acute mania. It may be a good choice in the treatment of acute mania.
