A study of risperidone and clozapine combined with lithium respectively in treatment of senile mania

Abstract

Objective:To compare the efficacy and side effects of risperidone and clozapine combined with lithium carbonate respectively in the treatment of senile mania.Method:62 patients with senile mania were randomly assigned to be treated with risperidone or clozapine combined with lithium carbonate respectively for 6 weeks.Clinical efficacy and side effects were evaluated with Bech-Rafaelsen mania rating scale(BRMS) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS).Results:There was no significant difference in the efficacy between two groups.Compared with clozapine,risperidone took effect later,but its side effects were less and had better compliance. Conclusion:Risperidone combined with lithium carbonate is effective in the treatment of senile mania,with higher security.
