Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of risperidone or chlopiomazine both combined with lithium in adolescence mania with psychotic symptoms.Method Seventy patients with adolescence mania (CCMD-3),were randomly assigned to receive risperidone or chlopiomazine both combined with lithium for eight weeks.Efficacy was evaluated with the brief psychiatric rating scale(BPRS),Bech-Kafaelsen mania rating scale (BRMS).Safety was evaluated with treatment emergent symptom (TESS) and laboratory tests. Results In both groups total score on BRMS was significantly reduced from baseline, with no significant different between groups. The risperidone side effects were lower than chlopiomazine. Conclusion The efficacy and safety of risperidone combined with lithium was higher in adolescence mania with psychotic symptoms.
